The fourth main installment of one of the world's most popular first-person shooter video games based on wartime strategies and offensive tactics

An Overview of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

The Call of Duty franchise has been out for more than a decade and has titles available on consoles, computers, and even mobile platforms. One of the most popular titles of the series is Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and it's now available for the Mac OS.

Call of Duty, or COD as it's most popularly known, was released back in 2003. Modern Warfare is actually the sixteenth installment of the franchise (the fourth main series edition) and the newest, released in October of 2019. It didn't take long at all for Aspyr to make this download available for the Mac OS.

Something Mac users should know right off is that this is not a free game. This particular version is the trial version, which means you can play the main campaign for a limited number of days, but you will not be able to access any bonus features or MMO play unless you purchase the full version.

What Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Is and What It Does

COD Modern Warfare is a first-person shooter game that deals in military campaigns. It has stellar, realistic graphics and also a ton of realism in how the graphics present, i.e. a lot of guts and gore. The main focus of this game is putting players in a modern, realistic war zone, where you will be playing as a CIA officer who joins forces with SAS forces and other rebels from Urzikstan.

As a guerrilla, mobile combat unit, you will wage a slew of different campaigns and conquer different objectives, leaving a lot of destruction in your wake. The controls are pretty simplistic to use, requiring only your keyboard and your mouse. So while it's a lot different than a console controller, it is in no way more difficult.

Overall, the game is entertaining and it's earning a lot of positive buzz for its single-player campaign being actually long and involved, as opposed to some versions of the game that focus only on online play with other players on designated servers. This is a game that can entertain you if you play it solo, as well as allowing you to play a multiplayer campaign online.

Features of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Like every new release of COD, one of the first features you will notice is an upgraded weapons selection. From new models of rocket launches and machine guns to improvised explosives you can rig up on the fly, you will definitely have a lot to choose from in terms of waging campaigns and achieving victory in the game.

It also upgrades a lot from the previous release in the series, Infinite Warfare. This is especially true for the online modes, which allow you to play in a Ground War mode that can support up to 64 players. For online campaigns, this is absolutely massive and can provide endless fun for Mac users who get the full version of the program.

Overall, Modern Warfare doesn't do a whole lot that's different from previous COD releases. It has better graphics, improved weapons, and a longer campaign, however, along with improved online play. So for what it is, it's likely one of the best in the COD series to date.
